-
Strap in – Always carry them with a strap or harness.
-

Binocular Straps
How to Care for Your Binocular Straps
General: Your LYFER binocular straps are crafted with paracord for strength, comfort and style. Depending on the style, they may also include vegan leather accents, split rings, carabiners or adjustable components. They’re made for bird walks, travel and outdoor use, but like most good gear, they’ll last longer if treated with a bit of care.
A Note on the LYFER Label: Each strap features a LYFER woven label that is carefully hand-applied. This is very much a handmade item, so please take a little care with the label too. Avoid pulling at it, picking at the stitching or twisting it unnecessarily. It’s there to look good and share your love for birds, not to be tested like a tug-of-war champion.
Keep Away from Heat: Paracord is made from synthetic fibres and doesn’t play well with fire or high temperatures. Keep your strap away from sparks, flames, heaters and hot surfaces when you’re out and about.
Don’t Leave It in the Sun All Day: This goes for you too. To help protect the colour of the paracord, don’t leave your strap sitting in direct sun for long periods. Like most things, too much sun over time can cause fading.
Not Waterproof, But Resilient: Your strap can handle getting wet, so don’t panic if you’re caught in a bit of weather. Let it dry naturally in the shade. Avoid full submersion, soaking or washing, especially for long periods, as this can affect the label, stitching, vegan leather details and overall finish.
Gentle Cleaning Only: For spot cleaning, use a damp cloth with a small amount of mild cleaner if needed. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, abrasive brushes or anything too rough. A gentle clean is all it should need.
Protect the Weave: To keep the paracord looking its best, avoid compressing it more than necessary or storing it alongside sharp tools or objects that may snag, pierce or pull the weave.
High-Quality Clasps and Carabiners: The adjustable components on the Adjustable Binocular Strap are made from durable, high-quality plastic. We had no choice, we needed them to last. Give them a quick check now and then to make sure everything is sitting securely.
The carabiners on the Double Paracord Binocular Strap are made from bronzed chrome and provide a reliable connection with a clean finish. Check them occasionally for wear, especially after heavier use, to make sure they remain secure.
Double Paracord Strap – Fastening to Your Binos or Camera
Your strap comes with two split rings. These are included for binoculars or cameras with smaller strap attachment points that may be too narrow for the carabiners.
Simply attach the split rings to your strap lugs, then clip the carabiners onto the rings for a secure, stable and flexible connection.
Enamel Field Mug
How to Love Your Enamel Mug
First Wash: Before its debut, wash your Field Mug with warm water, dish soap and a soft sponge. Abrasive pads or scouring tools are a no-go if you want to keep its glossy surface looking good.
Best Washed by Hand: Your Field Mug is dishwasher-safe, but we recommend handwashing where possible to help protect its finish over time. Harsh detergents can dull the surface, and we spent a lot of time illustrating it for you.
Tea and Coffee Care: Tea and coffee can naturally stain enamel, especially if they are left sitting in the mug or not rinsed properly after use. To help prevent marks, give your mug a good rinse once you’ve finished your cuppa and wash it soon after. Try not to leave tea, coffee or other strongly coloured drinks sitting in it overnight. If staining does happen, soak with warm soapy water, then clean gently with a soft sponge. For more stubborn marks, a small amount of bicarb soda mixed with water can help lift the stain without needing anything too rough.
Safe in Hot and Cold: Your Field Mug is safe to use in fridges, freezers and ovens. Enamelware is very resistant, but don’t throw it directly into the campfire like a cowboy with something to prove.
Campfire Companion: Made for outdoor adventures, your Field Mug can be used for heating water or warming drinks over a fire. Just be mindful — the metal core means it can get very hot, very quickly.
Microwave Alert: Enamelware is not microwave-safe. Don’t even try.
Handle with Care: It’s durable, but not indestructible. Your Field Mug can chip if dropped or handled roughly. A chip can add character, but avoid using damaged pieces for hot or acidic foods and drinks.
One Last Important Thing: Your Field Mug will outlast a lot, but if it is exposed to excessive pressure or dropped hard enough, it can break, just like glass. Try not to drop it all the time. It has feelings. Sort of.
Field Notepad - Stone Paper
Caring for your Field Notepad:
Protect from Heat: While your notepad is designed to be rugged, stone paper isn’t heatproof. Keep your notepad away from open flames, heaters, or any source of high heat. Excessive temperatures can cause the paper to deform or warp.
Waterproof, Not Indestructible: While it shrugs off water with ease, avoid submerging the notepad in boiling liquids or exposing it to extreme stress in wet conditions. If you spill your drink on the pad, just wipe the surface with a dry or damp cloth, and you’re good to go.
Resists Stains, but Clean Gently: If oil, grease, or dirt gets on your notepad, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as the smooth surface cleans up easily without them.
Using The Right Pens: For best results, opt for ballpoint, gel, or oil-based pens. These provide smooth writing without smudging. Avoid fountain pens, as the ink may not adhere well to the stone surface.
Store Flat and Safe: Store your notepad flat to maintain its shape, and avoid stacking it under heavy items to prevent unintended creasing.
Keep It Close: We chose stone paper for its environmental properties and durability, but we always recommend that you keep it in a secure pocket or weather-resilient bag that is ideal for carrying it during outdoor bird walks.

Headwear - Nest For Your Head Beanies
How to Care For Your Nest For Your Beanie:
Keep it Cool: Your beanie is made from 100% merino wool, so treat it gently. Hand wash in cool to lukewarm water, around 30 degrees max. No hot water please, unless you’re trying to make a beanie for a sparrow.
Be Gentle: Use a mild wool-friendly detergent and skip the bleach. Avoid harsh detergents, fabric softeners, or anything too aggressive. Merino is beautiful, but it does like manners.
Don’t Soak It Forever: A short gentle wash is all it needs. Don’t leave it sitting in water for long periods, and avoid twisting or wringing it out, as this can affect the shape and knit.
Dry It Flat: After washing, gently press out excess water with a towel and lay it flat to dry in the shade. Don’t hang it while wet, as it may stretch. No tumble dryers, no radiators, and no direct sunbaking.
Pilling Can Happen: Merino wool is a natural fibre, so some light pilling may appear with wear, especially in areas that rub. This is normal. Gently remove pills by hand or with a proper wool comb, and go easy.
Store It Smart: When the colder months are done, make sure your beanie is clean and completely dry before storing it away. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, ideally folded rather than hung. For extra care, use a wool-safe moth repellent nearby, but not directly on the beanie.
One Last Thing: Your LYFER beanie has been knitted in small batches in Portugal using refined knitwear techniques. It’s made to be worn, loved, and looked after, a little care will help keep the shape, softness, and warmth doing their thing for many winters to come.
Socks - Field Socks

Go Easy: Stick to a gentle cycle if you can to keep it looking fresh. For the first wash, best to wash separately.
Air It Out: Hang it up to dry— although you can tumble dry, we prefer you don't, not just for the socks but our planet too.
Ironing: Who presses their socks!? If you like too, we are all for it, but not for these socks sorry.
One Last Important Thing: Your Lyfer original socks are made from wool so they will shed a little while you wear them.

Photo Rig Smartphone Adaptor - NOCS
Caring for your Lyfer Thermo Bottle:
The NOCS Photo Rig is built for field use, but a little care will help keep it working smoothly.
To use, secure your phone in the spring-loaded clamp and align the camera lens with your binocular or monocular eyepiece. For phones with multiple camera lenses, try using portrait mode, as this can help your phone use a single lens and make alignment easier. For the most stable fit, lower the eyecup on your binoculars or monocular before attaching the rig.
After use, wipe away dust, sand or moisture with a soft dry cloth. Avoid forcing the clamp or frame, and store the Photo Rig somewhere dry when not in use. Like all field gear, it’s made to roam, but it’ll last longer if it’s kept clean, dry and out of unnecessary pressure in your bag.
Thermo Bottle
Caring for your Lyfer Thermo Bottle:
Hand Wash Recommended: We spent a lot of time choosing the best powder coat for your thermo bottle however the finish needs looking after. To maintain optimal insulation, please hand wash your bottle with warm water and mild dish soap. That’s all it needs.
Avoid Abrasive Cleaners: In fact, don't use any abrasive cleaners please, use only a soft sponge or cloth when cleaning.
Dry Thoroughly: After cleaning (by hand), leave the bottle open to air dry completely before storing it to avoid moisture buildup. This also goes for the Lock and Flow lid too.
Don’t Freeze: While your thermo bottle is designed to keep liquids cold for many hours, avoid freezing the bottle as it will damage the insulation or cause it to crack.
Avoid High Heat: Don’t expose the bottle to extreme heat (like boiling water or direct sunlight for extended periods) as this can damage both the internal insulation and the exterior finish.
Regular Checks for Wear: Over time, with all those outdoor adventures you've been on, the exterior may show signs of wear. We recommend that you regularly inspect your bottle for any dents or cracks that could impact its performance. A small dent can still keep your bottle functional, but it’s best to avoid dropping it whenever possible.
Lock & Flow Lid:
Tightening the lid: When securing the lid onto the bottle, tighten it enough so its secure but avoid over-tightening. This can put unnecessary pressure on the parts and potentially damage the seal.
Rinse After Each Use: Make a habit of rinsing the lid with warm water to remove any residue and prevent buildup.
Deep Clean Regularly: Once in a while, disassemble the Lock and Flow button top and wash them separately with warm, soapy water. Make sure no residue remains in the button mechanism.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners. Harsh chemicals can damage the silicone seal and the functionality of the button mechanism.
Tote Field Bag
How to Care For Your Tote Field Bag:
Quick Spot Clean: Got a smudge? Use a damp cloth with a little mild soap and gently wipe it down.
Hand Wash Only: When It’s Really Needed: If it’s looking a bit too well-loved, soak it in cold water with a mild detergent, swish it around gently, and you’re good to go. It may lose a bit of shape, but it won't ruin it!
Skip the Washer: Machines can be a bit rough on thick canvas and will shrink it. A bit of elbow grease will have it looking good again.
Air Dry Always: Lay it flat or hang it up to dry naturally. Keep it out of direct sunlight so it doesn’t get stiff or faded.
No Bleach, No Ironing: Bleach can weaken the fabric, and ironing isn’t canvas’ best friend. If you really need to, use low heat with a cloth between the iron and bag.
Store Smart: When you’re not using it, stash your bag somewhere cool and dry. Keep it unfolded if you can to keep that nice shape.
