Join the Aussie Bird Count 2024 – Counting Birds for Conservation!

The Aussie Bird Count is back from October 14th to 20th, 2024. Every year, thousands of people join this nationwide event dedicated to bird counting for conservation.

Watchful eyes across Australia will spend just 20 minutes participating in the Aussie Bird Count.  Last year alone, over 60,000 participants in the Aussie Bird Count collectively tallied a remarkable 3,608,545 birds.

Since the event began, citizen scientists have recorded sightings of more than 600 bird species, highlighting Australia's impressive biodiversity and reinforcing the importance of bird counting for conservation.

This data is crucial because it helps track how different bird species are faring, providing valuable insight into environmental health. BirdLife Australia uses this information to identify trends and threats facing native birds, guiding targeted conservation strategies and policy decisions.

Participating is simple, enjoyable, and impactful. All you need is 20 minutes to observe and record birds around you. You don't need to be an expert; the Aussie Bird Count app even includes a user-friendly 'Bird Finder' tool to assist with identifying any unfamiliar species.

Additionally, your participation can win you fantastic prizes, such as an OM SYSTEM digital camera, Optisan binoculars, or beautiful handcrafted bird figurines, adding even more incentive to join.

Get involved, or at the very least, use it as a reason to slow down and really notice the world around you. It's not only good for your mental health but also a simple way to contribute positively to our planet’s well-being.
